Artist Statement/ Biography

Miranda Blennerhassett’s work explores the relationship between art and architecture through the creation of large-scale installations. Using of a range of materials, including paint, fabrics, vinyl, video etc., Blennerhassett works directly with the gallery walls to examine the subjects of urban design, contemporary architecture, the role of ornamentation and the construction of pattern. At the centre of this practice is a desire to pay attention to details that are otherwise overlooked but that impact the way we subconsciously react to a space or context.

Miranda Blennerhassett is a Scottish artist who has been based in Dublin, Ireland for the last 8 years. Recent exhibitions and commissions include: ‘Kambur’, Temple Bar Gallery, Dublin; Royal College of Surgeons Ireland Commission, Dublin; Royal Hibernian Academy Annual Commission, Dublin; ‘Jealous Wall’, Luan Gallery, Athlone; ‘GUH’, TULCA, Galway; ‘Evident Care’, Suttie Arts Space, Aberdeen; ‘Drawn Away Together’, Talbot Rice Gallery, Edinburgh; ‘Questions to Ask Yourself Before Building Your First House’, Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop, Edinburgh. Recent residencies include SIM Artists Residency, Reykjavik, Iceland; Ballinglen Arts Foundation, Mayo. Miranda Blennerhassett received a Master of Fine Art from National College of Art and Design, Dublin and a BA Hons First Class from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee.
